Independent Schools Nsw (Support and Operational Staff) Multi-Enterprise Agreement

The multi-company agreement for support staff of independent schools in New South Wales, the 2017 multi-company agreement on Nsw Independent Schools (support staff and operational staff), was approved on 23 March 2017 and therefore also starts on 30 March 2017. The Union would like to thank the members for their patience in anticipation of the adoption of the agreements. Click here for salary ranges. SALARY INCREASES Support and operations staff receive a salary increase of 2.5% for each year of the MEA. Some employees receive slightly higher increases – levels 2 and 3 of maintenance and off-road staff and some classifications for childminders. The Union considers wage increases to be a good outcome for members in the current economic environment characterised by low inflation. BACKPAY The Teachers` MEA explicitly states that the difference between the 2017 MEA rate and the rate actually received by the teacher during this period (i.e. the additional payment) must be paid as soon as possible after the start of the new MEA. While the MEA is not as specific to support staff, it states that the 2.5% salary increase will apply from 1 February 2017 and we expect schools to treat support staff no less generously than teachers in terms of payment arrears. REGULAR WORKING HOURS AND SHIFT PENALTIES All casual workers now receive a 25% burden. Feel free to call the union if you have any questions about implementing the new MEA in your school. Housing allowances apply to pension staff and nurses who have to spend the night at work but who do not only receive their own accommodation. Childminders who need to provide first aid can request first aid for the first time.

A tool allowance is paid to all skilled craftsmen who have to provide their own trading instruments, the junior rates have been changed to be payable for fewer classifications. IMPLEMENTATION IN YOUR SCHOOL The MEA now determines the range of normal working hours – usually between 6 or 7 hours of .m and 6 p..m., depending on the type of work. Shift penalties and split shift penalties (to work two shifts in one day) now apply to more positions – if you work on weekends or outside normal working hours, check these new regulations carefully. The penalty for broken diapers is 15%. There are also new provisions on the notification of lists. .
